DGS leaves advice for a very hot week

At a time when, this week, thermometers will walk above 30º across the country, Graça Freitas, Director-General of Health, left specific advice to deal with high temperatures.

“As you know, these circumstances are associated with higher mortality,” he said, calling attention to “children, the elderly, pregnant women and sick people”, as groups that have to be more careful.

“Drinking water, herbal teas or natural fruit juices, without sugar, avoiding consumption of alcoholic beverages. Eating cold, light meals several times a day, wearing loose clothing, wearing a hat and sunglasses” were some tips left by DGS

Graça Freitas recommended that you stay, “two or three hours a day” in cool spaces to help the body regulate the temperature and avoid physical efforts during the hottest hours.

“Patients should have their medication up to date and their underlying diseases controlled, so that the heat does not decompress them”, advised the DGS. “When in doubt look for support lines, 112 or SNS 24 (808 24 24 24)”, finished Graça Freitas.
